The law firm of Wilhelm & Roemersma has a strong presence in Phillipsburg, Bethlehem, and Belvidere, and with that comes a strong love of our communities and local events. Since August is fast approaching, that obviously means Musikfest.& ;

As Bethlehem gears up for Musikfest, there will be an increased likelihood of DUI and DWI arrests in the area. Should you be charged with drunk driving or driving while intoxicated, our DUI lawyers are here to help you receive a fair shake from the law.

About Musikfest

Started in 1984, Musikfest is one of the largest (if not the largest) free music festivals in the country. This time-honored tradition in Bethlehem, PA features 11 free stages and three ticketed stages located throughout Bethlehem’s historic district, where more than 500 performances will take place over the course of 10 days.

This year, Musikfest will run from Friday, August 1st to Sunday, August 10th. Though ZZ Top has had to cancel due to health reasons, this year’s line-up will include Sheryl Crow, Weezer, Keith Urban, Steely Dan, Alan Jackson, Jason Derulo, The Avett Brothers, and The Moody Blues.

High Attendance Means Increased Attention by Law Enforcement

Nearly 1 million people attended Musikfest in 2013, an uptick in the numbers after lower attendance in the previous years. With comparable numbers likely this year, it should come as no surprise that law enforcement will be out in high numbers for crowd control and to monitor for alcohol-related offenses.

Most people who attend Musikfest are there to have a good time and will be responsible during festivities, but there are some who may make poor decisions and wind up driving while over the legal limit.

Sobriety Checkpoints May Be Set Up

Sobriety checkpoints are not unheard of during Musikfest. These checkpoints may back up traffic for people in the area and prove an inconvenience, but they are for the public good. While well-meaning, the sheer volume of vehicles and motorists means chances of police mistakes when assessing sobriety.

If you are charged with drunk driving, you can face stiff fines, jail time, license suspension, and other serious penalties. It’s for these reasons that you need legal representation on your side.

How Our Legal Team Can Help You Following a DUI/DWI Arrest

The legal team at Wilhelm & Roemersma believes that in order to ensure the fairness of our legal system, a vigorous defense is required. That’s why we will fight diligently for all of our clients, noting the circumstances of the arrest and any potential errors that would call into question the legitimacy of the arrest as well.

Our team will negotiate deals that benefit our clients, helping to reduce penalties within reason. Ultimately we want to make sure that those whom we represent are aware of all the ramifications of their choices and know what they can do going forward to return to normalcy following their drunk driving charge.

Please Drink Responsibly While at Musikfest

With all of the above in mind, we want to encourage anyone attending Musikfest this year to drink responsibly. If you do drink, please have a designated driver with you, use public transit, or hire a cab. Musikfest is best when people are having fun and when everyone on the road is safe and looking out for one another’s well-being.
