sun clipart.gifIf you live in the Lehigh Valley or in Warren County, New Jersey, the warm weather will be here soon. If you were to interview Emergency Room staff in the local hospitals such as St. Luke’s, Lehigh Valley Hospital, or St. Luke’s Warren, the staff may comment that there is a significant rise in injuries during the summer months. This is a phenomenon that has been in existence for a long time. It is human nature to spend more time outside during the summer months. From participating in more sporting events to working longer hours outside with machinery, the risk of injuries nearly doubles. One group which experiences this increased risk of injury is seasonal summer workers.

Summer employment opportunities are abundant in the Lehigh Valley and New Jersey. From amusement parks to landscape companies, these employers hire seasonal help during these warm months. For example, Dorney Park will hire hundreds of seasonal workers this year due to the large crowds that appear during the summer. These workers will experience extreme heat at times and will often be required to use unique machinery such as ride controls throughout the day. Various injuries can occur due to poor lighting or carrying something which is too heavy. Employees can also suffer injuries as a result of careless park attendees.

If you are an employee who finds yourself outside this summer, it is crucial to be aware of your surroundings and ask for help when you believe there is an unsafe situation. It is also crucial for you to confirm that your employer has workers’ compensation insurance coverage. Without workers’ compensation coverage, you may be left with a large debt of unpaid medical bills and a permanent injury.
