In New Jersey and Pennsylvania, we are currently in the snow, freezing rain, and icy roads season, all in which can result in dangerous driving conditions. It is important to protect yourself both from injury and legal consequences during this time.
Naturally, when there is an icy road, it may feel like it is not your fault and that legal consequences cannot or should not arise from it, however, that is not the case. Even with icy or snowy roads, you can be held liable for causing a collision. It is your duty to exercise caution, keep a reasonable distance, maintain a safe speed and pay attention to other drivers as well.
While you may not receive a ticket, or consequences from the police, the individual you collided with may still bring legal action against you for personal injury and damage to their vehicle.
In order to avoid injury and possible legal action this winter, give the road your undivided attention, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and prepare your car for the winter months.
