NY PASSES TOUGHEST GUN CONTROL LAW IN U.S.

On January 15, 2012, New York passed the NY-SAFE Act, which is currently the toughest assault-weapons ban in the country. While the law has many components, one of the more controversial provisions is a reductionin the permitted number of bullets allowed in a magazine-from ten to seven. Although an earlier poll showed New Yorkers backed tougher gun control initiatives, the new law has received mixed reviews. Opponents of the law claim the state is infringing on their Second Amendment rights, while supporters believe it is a necessary measure that will save lives.
